This site shows a number of pictures of me, all with a
little background on what they show or at what occasion they were taken.
To find out what I do when I am not working on my web page, go to
my academia work
page. Alternatively, you might take a look at two of my
hobbies: driving nice cars, and
collecting Matchbox cars. Instead of posting many pictures from my own
collection, I refer surfers to the phantastic site of the Dutch Matchbox Forum. Here are
just a few samples from what I have accumulated over the last 40 years:
The left is from the 1993 US baseball series, the two on the right are
from the US re-edition of the 1956 first-series cars.
Here are a few other
places where you can find me on the Web:
Next are a few links to
sites of people I am a great fan of:
Finally, here are links to some of my favorite hangouts
worldwide:
- Humphrey's
By The Bay on Shelter Island in San Diego, CA, the one and only
place for a sunday brunch (but also for nice open-air summer concerts)
- Monegro, a
Mongolian BBQ in Münster, Germany
- Casa de Pico in San Diego, CA, THE place for truly
giant margaritas and awesome Mexican food
- Hard Rock Cafes
anywhere, but especially in Berlin, San Francisco, London, La Jolla, and
Singapore (in this order; the latter once saved me from having Chinese
food three to four times a day)
- Felix, the restaurant and bar at the 28th floor of the
Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong, the mens' restroom of which provides an
absolutely unique view of this city
- Andy's Jazz
Club on 11 East Hubbard Street in Chicago, IL
- Yoshi's, the
double-pack of jazz clubs (and sushi bars, actually Japanese
restaurants) located in the Fillmore Heritage Center in San
Francisco as well as across the Bay at Jack London Square in Oakland, CA
- The Cook Cafe and
Bar, a local hangout in Hillcrest East, Hamilton, New Zealand, where
a Distinction Ale was consumed now and then during
Gottfried's NZ sabbatical in 2006/7
